Simple repairs such as re-hinging a loose board or mending a torn page can be completed within one to two weeks. More complex conservation projects — full re-backing, paper washing, deacidification — typically require four to eight weeks depending on the volume's age and condition.
Yes. For an initial estimate, you can send high-resolution photographs of the cover, spine, title page, copyright page and any notable defects. We will provide a preliminary valuation range. A formal written appraisal requires physical inspection, which can be arranged via insured post.
We use only archival-grade, acid-free materials: Japanese tissue for paper repairs, wheat-starch paste for adhesion, conservation-grade leather and bookcloth, and pH-neutral boards. All treatments are fully reversible in accordance with international conservation standards.
Absolutely. Our senior conservator has over twenty years of experience with incunabula and medieval manuscripts. We follow the guidelines set by the Institute of Conservation and consult with academic specialists when needed.
Wrap the volume in acid-free tissue, place it inside a snug cardboard cradle, and cushion with bubble wrap. Use a rigid outer box and ship via a tracked, insured service. We can also arrange collection through our courier partners for high-value items.
Yes. Our appraisal reports are accepted by major UK insurers and include replacement-value estimates, detailed condition descriptions and supporting photographic evidence. We recommend updating valuations every three to five years to reflect market changes.
